There are extreme <a href=\"http:\/\/www.burnsurvivorsttw.org\/burns\/burntrauma2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">physical and psychological consequences<\/a> facing burn survivors every day. Some of the most common include the following:\n<ul>\n \t<li>Debridement. Most burn patients agree that no amount of pain medication is sufficient to dull the excruciating pain caused by the necessary debridement of the burned skin and tissue after a severe burn. Medical personnel slough off the damaged areas to allow new skin growth.<\/li>\n \t<li>Painful skin grafts. Burn patients often endure numerous skin grafts to preserve range of motion, prevent contractions and improve the appearance of the burned area.<\/li>\n \t<li>Disfigurement. This can be one of the most harrowing consequences of a burn injury. Imagine having your own children run away screaming in terror after glimpsing your altered appearance. While kids may adjust over time, patients' injuries may be so extensive that they can never again hug or hold their children without causing themselves agonizing pain.<\/li>\n \t<li>Dependency. Those with burn injuries that alter the range of motion of their limbs may discover that they are almost or completely dependent upon others for their personal care and activities of daily living.
