A former music teacher from the Truro area has been found guilty in Nova Scotia Supreme Provincial Court on charges of sexual touching of a young person involving a former student. The teacher, Lorna Elaine Letcher, of Valley in Colchester County, was convicted earlier this week in connection with incidents dating back many years.
Letcher served as a band director at Cobequid Educational Centre and was also known locally as a music instructor and volunteer. The charges related to alleged conduct that occurred when the complainant was a minor under her instruction.
Court proceedings have concluded on the guilt verdict; a sentencing hearing is scheduled later this year, where a judge will determine the appropriate sentence for the offences.
