On March 8, a serious car-pedestrian accident in Nova Scotia resulted in a portion of a major highway being shut down for several hours. The pedestrian accident took place on the Trans-Canada Highway, or Highway 105, in Cape Breton at 12:18 p.m. Motorists were told to avoid the area as there was no way to re-route traffic on the highway.
According to reports, Victoria County RCMP officers were on the scene of the accident in Cape Breton. Apparently, a small passenger car that was traveling eastbound on the highway had hit a female pedestrian. The pedestrian was rushed to Cape Breton Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, and the car driver was uninjured. It is unclear what factors led to the collision or whether criminal charges were filed against the driver.
Following the accident, RCMP announced that the highway would remain closed while investigators reconstructed the events that had occurred. Drivers who were going to and from Cape Breton were advised to use Highway 4 while the investigation was underway.
