A vehicle carrying seven individuals crashed in Judique, south of Port Hood. The teen who was behind the wheel the vehicle that was damaged in the car accident is facing a litany of criminal charges.
At the time of the accident, the car was heading northbound on Shore Road on July 22. The car went off the road and then flipped over. Seven people were in the vehicle and all but the driver were thrown during the accident. Three individuals died as a result, but the constable says that the survivors have also been deeply impacted. He says that one of the car accident survivors is paraplegic. Another sustained a head injury that may have long-lasting effects on his cognitive abilities. The third surviving passenger may suffer from chronic pain for the rest of the victim’s life due to the injuries sustained.
The deceased victims included a 17-year-old from Judique, a 19-year-old from Judique and a 20-year-old from Port Hood. The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident has been charged with multiple offences. These charges include three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, as well as three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. The accused teen is scheduled to appear in Port Hood in February. It is a youth court.
If a victim is injured or dies through the negligent act of speeding, drinking and driving or operating a motor vehicle without the necessary skill or experience required, the victim’s family may pursue a personal injury or wrongful death claim. Through such a course of action, the victim’s family may be able to recover damages related to the loss of a loved one. They may be able to receive compensation for the medical, burial or funeral expenses, lost benefits, loss of support, loss of companionship and loss of consortium.
