Dole Recalls Multiple Salad Kits Due to Possibility of Listeria Contamination

Listeria has been identified in both Dole’s and President’s Choice brands; a recall notice has been issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency this past Saturday the 8th of January 2022. The food is said to be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes which can cause illness. People who are immunocompromised or pregnant may experience severe illness or possibly death if they come in contact with Listeria. (1)

Symptoms that can be caused by ingesting Listeria are vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches, and stiffness of the neck. It has been advised by the CFIA that if you have the recalled salad at home, you should throw it or return it to the location where you had purchased it.

The list of recalled products include the following:

  • Dole Garden Salad, 340 g, UPC 0 71430 01135 5. All packages bearing a lot code beginning with « B » and a best before date up to and including Jan. 8, 2022 and all packages bearing a lot code beginning with « W » and a best before date up to and including Jan. 9, 2022
  • Dole Very Veggie, 283 g, UPC 0 71430 01008 2. All packages bearing a lot code beginning with « W » and a best before date up to and including Jan. 9, 2022
  • Dole Greener Selection, 312 g. UPC 0 71430 00965 9. All packages bearing a lot code beginning with « W » and a best before date up to and including Jan. 9, 2022
  • Dole American Blend, 340 g, UPC 0 71430 00933 8. All packages bearing a lot code beginning with « W » and a best before date up to and including Jan. 9, 2022
  • Dole Asian Island Crunch Suprême Kit, 368 g, UPC 0 71430 01721 0. All packages bearing a lot code beginning with « W » and a best before date up to and including Jan. 9, 2022
  • Dole Southwest Salad Suprême Kit, 369 g, UPC 0 71430 01711 1. All packages bearing a lot code beginning with « W » and a best before date up to and including Jan. 9, 2022

As of right now, there are no reported illnesses in connection with the consumption of any of the recalled Salads according to the CFIA. There are 3 ways that you can reduce your risk of being exposed to Listeria Illness they are (2)

  1. Use refrigerated foods by the use date that is on the package

The longer they are stored in the fridge the more chance that Listeria has to grow.

  1. Make sure to chill at the right temperature

The right temperature can slow the growth of Listeria. Your refrigerator should register at around 40°F (4°C) or below and your freezer at 0°F (-18°C).

  1. Ensure that your refrigerator is clean.

Clean your fridge regularly by wiping up spills, clean the inside walls and shelves with hot water and liquid dishwashing detergent then dry with a clean cloth or towel.
