FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MADDY CARTER RECEIVES

LEXPERT RISING STARS 2021: CANADA’S LEADING LAWYERS UNDER 40 AWARD

Halifax, Nova Scotia, December 3, 2021

The lawyers and staff at Wagners are pleased to announce that their colleague, Maddy Carter, has been named as one of the recipients of the Lexpert Rising Stars 2021: Canada’s Leading lawyers under 40, awarded by Lexpert Business of Law. The Lexpert Rising Star awards are bestowed annually with the intention of shining the spotlight on lawyers under 40. Maddy was named a Litigator to Watch in the field of class actions by the 2022 Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory and was named as a 2021 Lexpert® Rising Star, celebrating Canada’s leading lawyers under 40.

Madeleine’s practice involves representing plaintiffs in class actions involving institutional abuse, environmental issues, pharmaceutical and product liability, Crown liability, privacy breaches and a variety of other systemic issues. She joined Wagners in 2014.

Madeleine has a law degree from the Schulich School of Law (2010) and a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge (2014). She is a recipient of the Right Honourable Paul Martin Sr. Scholarship and was repeatedly recognized by the University of Cambridge for her academic achievements in her graduate work in public international law, including earning the distinction of the highest academic standing in international law.

Earlier this year, Madeleine was awarded the 2021 Women in Law Award in the category of Canadian personal injury lawyer, awarded by Lawyer Monthly.

In her community, Madeleine has been a board member of Alice House, an organization providing second-stage housing and counselling to women leaving domestic violence, and Devour The Food Film Fest, an annual film festival in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

“It’s an honour to receive recognition alongside such impressive lawyers from across Canada, some of whom I’ve had the privilege of working with at one time or another. But really, it’s the impact of the work we’re doing at Wagners that attracts the recognition. I’m just one of the many who work on our clients’ matters. Without our clients’ dedication to initiating the advancement of important social causes, and their commitment when the road feels long and frustrating, we would not be doing what we do.”

We at Wagners offer our heartfelt congratulations to Maddy for being recognized for her contribution and hard work. We are honored to call her a colleague and friend.
