A Halifax accident resulted in six people being sent to the hospital and commuters being stuck in traffic for hours after 7:00 a.m. Sept. 20. The car accident occurred on Bedford Highway and involved four vehicles.
The accident happened by the Main Street intersection and, according to a spokesperson for the Halifax Regional Police, the accident was a result of an outbound pickup truck crossing the centre-line and crashing head-on into three inbound vehicles. An eyewitness corroborated this story, saying that he saw a red truck coming from the opposite lane that appeared nearly airborne. The witness also said that the truck hit one of the cars head-on and created the four-car pileup. The witness reports that bystanders rushed to help the car accident victims by helping them out of their vehicles. One of the individuals had to be extracted with the Jaws of Life. That person and five other individuals were taken to a hospital in Halifax for treatment of their injuries.
The patients included four men and two women, between the ages of 27 and 66. Some of the serious injuries sustained by the victims were considered to be non life-threatening. It is not yet apparent whether any criminal charges will be laid, and the accident is still under investigation. The road reopened at 11:30 a.m.
Halifax personal injury lawyers may be able to assist individuals who sustain injuries in accidents that are not their fault. Personal injury lawyers may be able investigate the accident further in order to determine the liability of each possible party. They may also be able to pursue compensation for the victim’s damages, including medical expenses, lost wages, lost earning capacity and pain and suffering.
