Former New Brunswick teacher Paul J. Maillet from Notre-Dame N.B is facing sex charges following an RCMP investigation that was looking into alleged incidents dating back to 1980.
The RCMP had started their investigation in August 2021 after receiving a complaint about incidents that involved a male teacher at École Champlain in Moncton, N.B., in 1987 and in 1988.
The investigation has led police to arrest Maillet at age 75 in January 2022. He has been charged with invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault, and acts of gross indecency, in the Moncton provincial court on April 4.
Maillet has been released on conditions and will return to court at a later date. There is a court-imposed publication ban on all information that can potentially identify the victim. Police say the investigation is still ongoing and that they are trying to determine if there are more victims. (1)
