The Motor Vehicle Act will permit the safe operations of e-scooters on municipal roadways. The changes were introduced on April 5th setting the minimum age, maximum speed, and various other requirements in legislation which will allow municipalities in Nova Scotia to create bylaws related to where people are able to operate e-scooters and other regulations for their use.
The amendments that were proposed include a minimum age of at least 14 to operate e-scooters, helmet requirements, a maximum speed of 32km/h, and other operational restrictions. Municipalities will have the discretion to set a lower speed limit if they deem it necessary and additionally decide if e-scooters will be allowed on roads, sidewalks, or shared sidewalks.
